Bibliographical description

Two Babar stories bringing image, text and recorded voices together.

Babar en famille, no. 4 in the Festival series, adapts Jean de Brunhoff’s album. François Périer narrates, with Jean Desailly as Babar. The book bears reference ALB 5003 M; the record is marked ALB 5003 and BIEM.

Babar et ce coquin d’Arthur, no. 7, derives from Laurent de Brunhoff’s album. François Périer again narrates, with Yves Furet as Babar. The set bears reference ALB 5006 M and the record ALB 5006.

These 1957 Festival editions are contemporary with the recordings and form the first editorial state of these sound adaptations, without a claim to a particular matrix state. The Babar series is associated with the Académie Charles-Cros Grand Prix du disque; the distinction is specifically documented for Babar en famille.

Condition and checks

Two well-handled albums, each retaining its record, sold without an audio test.

Babar en famille

Red cover rubbed and glossy from handling, with creases, marks and wear to corners and edges. Paper toned and locally marked; the photographed illustrated booklet remains legible.

Babar et ce coquin d’Arthur

Green cover rubbed, creased and marked, with edge wear. Folds, sewing and the internal record pocket appear more strained and require careful handling.

Records

One Super 45 rpm vinyl record is present in each album. Surface traces and scratches are visible. FOLIA MUNDI has neither cleaned nor played them, and makes no guarantee of audio performance.

Completeness

The two albums and both records are confirmed present. The booklets have not been collated page by page; the set is sold as found and as photographed.

Photography

Hands, fabric and surrounding objects have been removed to place every view on FOLIA MUNDI’s uniform ivory background. The albums, records, printed text, colours and visible defects remain those shown in the original photographs.
